Vladimir Putin congratulated the staff and readers of Literaturnaya Gazetaon the 195th anniversary of this popular weekly.
The message reads, in part:
“The history of one of this country’s oldest periodicals is inseparably linked with the names of prominent writers, poets, publicists, and thinkers. And, of course, you are rightly proud that it is your newspaper that has published many famous works of literature, which have brought glory to Russian and world literature.
Let me note that the weekly’s staff have always been enthusiastic people and true professionals, who could discern and discover true talents, value the beauty of thought and language, and sought to support authors and help them to make a name for themselves. This is why the newspaper has, for almost two centuries, made an important contribution to the development of Russian literature and journalism, as well as public and cultural life.
It is gratifying that the current staff of Literaturnaya Gazeta are worthy successors to the best traditions of many generations of their predecessors and are implementing remarkable, engaging ideas and initiatives.
Thank you for your devotion to the cause and calling you have chosen.”
